Chapter Twelve; East to West: England

Our adventure has drawn us out of the hot Eastern sun and into the Western rain of England. Our bodies were so thankful for the drop in temperature and yet we miss India already.  Here in England we met up with the sister, Diasha, of my dearest friend, Shira. She has lived here in the UK for 12 years with her husband, Edward, and two children, Dakota and Tabitha. Daisha has made discovering the UK a serious hobby and is quite the expert. She has been the most wonderful host in the world and has given us such a proper introduction to life in the UK. We have been able to learn things about the culture that we never would have been able to learn with out a local guide.
It has been such a transition coming from India to England.  They both drive on the left side of the road, and drink gallons of tea, but they are such vastly different cultures. In India the food is spicy, everything is colorful, stories are exaggerated, people eat with their hands, sleep on the roof and walk around without shoes. In England, the food is bland, the colors are muted, the people are modest, people never touch their food with their hands, and are all proper and traditional and oh so polite. We love the contrast and LOVE the rain!  We explored all around South Western England then then headed up North to beat out the crouds (We landed in England during the queens 60th anniversary as queen and London was CRAZY with excitement).
We were greated in England with a proper tea party. Crumpets and tarts and of course, tea.

This sweet is called Rock. It is like a soft taffy. And through an interesting stretching process, they are able to write words inside the taffy.

The amazingly beautiful and stunning white cliffs of Dover.

At the white cliffs of Dover. The cliffs are made of chalk. I chipped some off and brought it back with me.

So many different kinds of candies.

We went into the city of Sandwich were the Duke of Sandwich invented the Sandwich.  and guess what we ate there?

Beans and Toast.  You are not actually British unless you eat beans and toast and we found out why..It is delicious!

Oh European Cheese!

A Hawk from a local bird refuge.

An average tea isle at a market in Britain.  These people LOVE their tea.
Canterbury
Canturbury cathedral.  Like from the Canterbury tales.
Mind your head...so polite!

There are many street musicians in England and they are all very soulful and fantastic!  Here they say that america has the movies, but England has the music!

Just a couple of granolas hangin out in Cathedrals
