Chapter Sixteen: London

Upon returning to England, we attended a Dickens festival in Manchester, where Dickens wrote from and based many of his stories around. As we walked the little cobblestone streets, passing people in top hats and 1800s dresses, we felt like we were inside a Dickens novel, it was fantastic.  We spent s few more days hanging around Kent and then Headed into London Towne.  We met up with Dan and Caitlin Gilman, old friends of ours from the states.  They live in London now and took us to a delicious little place for lunch.  It was wonderful to see their dear faces and catch up.  We also met up with a couple we met at the Ashram in India, Joe and Sarah Jane.  Along with their friend Taj, we all went to St. Paul's, the Tate modern museum, and over to a pub to eat fish and chips and watch the football (soccer) game.  Daniel and I know nothing about English football, but it was so great to see a pub packed with Londoners, cheering for their team over a pint.  To end our last evening in England, we bought tickets to Hamlet at the Globe theatre.  This theatre was rebuilt on the exact location where the original Globe theatre was and was built exactly the same way, with all the same materials and designs.  Most of the tickets are standing only, and the ones that are for sitting are on hard wooden benches.  They rent out little cushions to sit on for 1 quid.  The performance was FANTASTIC and felt so authentically Shakespeare!  It was a perfect way to end our time in England.

Chapter Fifteen: Wales

After a wonderful time in Scotland we made our way South towards Wales with a pit stop in Liverpool.  This year is the 50th anniversary of the Beatles and so it was only fitting to walk along the docks of Liverpool with the Beatles playing from our little speaker.
After a night in Liverpool, we ended up in a little Welsh town called Llengollen which was recommended to me by my dad and brother Johnny.  We stayed at a lovely little welsh inn called the wilde pheasant and explored the darling little town.  We woke up early the next morning and hiked up through fields of sheep to a castle ruin on a steep hill called Dinas Bran.  There was a wind storm taking place in Wales at the time, so we were the only ones around for miles.  We blasted Radiohead and danced with the wind on the top of this little mountain with a beautiful view of wales surrounding us.  Our plan was to head over to another national Park in wales and then head down to the southern coast where Daniel's ancestors were sailors.  Alas we ran out of time and had to head back to England.  We loved wales and intend on making it back to her green rolling hills again some day.

I loved the sheep in Wales

In Northern Wales all the public signs have both English and Welsh, in an effort to keep the Welsh language alive.  It is wonderful.
